The imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival is currently accepting applications for a DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT (FULL-TIME PERMANENT POSITION).The annual imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival – the largest festival of its kind in the world – is seeking a dynamic self-starter for a key senior role. Now entering its thirteenth year, imagineNATIVE is an international showcase for Indigenous film, video, radio, new media, and installation art. Located in a beautiful arts-focused building at 401 Richmond Street West in Toronto, imagineNATIVE is a community-based festival and charity committed to the development and promotion of Indigenous artists and their work. This is an amazing opportunity to be a part of one of Canada’s most successful arts organizations and one of the leaders in Toronto's vibrant independent film festival scene. The role will offer a high profile in the arts and Aboriginal communities and the candidate will nurture and develop key contacts within the corporate, foundation, individual, and public sectors.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Executive Director, the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Development include, but are not limited to:
- Manage all aspects of fundraising and development, including:
- Solicit and secure cash donations, sponsorships, exchanges and in-kind donations from corporations, foundations, consulates and embassies, and community organizations;
- Develop and regularly update fund development goals and direction, including new sponsor, foundation, and donor targets and sponsor and donation levels;
- Maintain current and build new relationships with corporate, foundation, consular, and other public and private sector partners;
- Diversify and expand private sector funding base;
- Research new funding possibilities, maintain and boost revenues within Canada and internationally;
- Manage, update and disseminate the grants timeline;
- Delegate grant and proposal writing together with the Executive Director;
- Develop and implement strategic public and private fundraising and wage subsidy initiatives with approval of the Executive Director;
- Write public and private grant proposals in compliance with established deadlines for each, collect and maintain all data and records required for such grants, in conjunction with the Executive Director;
- Provide other information as necessary to the Executive Director;
- Manage and oversee individual donor campaigns;
- Prepare and disseminate charitable tax receipts as necessary;
- Liaise with the Charities Directorate;
- Develop and maintain sponsorship and foundations database;
- Review and revise annually the individual donor and sponsorship packages;
- With the involvement of the Executive Director, develop sponsor and fundraising opportunities for aspects of fund development related to programming, including special initiatives and focused projects, especially with regard to community partners;
- Develop and produce materials for the solicitation of corporate and private sector revenues, development activities and outreach.
- Participate in board committees as necessary, including, but not limited to Development Committee;
- Prepare monthly reports to the board, as necessary;
- Conduct an annual development evaluation;
- Participate in job evaluations, as necessary;
- Other duties and general assistance as required or assigned.
Demonstrated track record in fundraising and development;
Grant or proposal writing experience (writing samples will be requested for interview);
Excellent communication, analytical, and motivational skills,
High level of professionalism and ability to interface with senior-level professionals and junior-level colleagues;
University or college degree in areas including: humanities, fundraising, arts administration or commensurate experience in the not-for-profit sector or media industry;
Ability to work independently and manage a number of projects in a deadline-driven environment;
An extensive network of contacts an asset;
Knowledge of the independent arts landscape in Canada an asset;
Knowledge of the landscape of Aboriginal media arts in Canada an asset.
