Now in its 15th year, The North by Northeast Music & Film Festival and Conference is Canada’s #1 showcase for the best new independent music and music-related films.

Every June, NXNE fills the streets of downtown Toronto with music. Over 500 local, national and international artists entertain 70,000 fans at 40 key downtown venues. Each year, high-profile acts join emerging talents to keep NXNE essential and eclectic: alumni include Feist, The Dears, Sufjan Stevens, the New York Dolls, Ron Sexsmith, K'naan, Television, Jason Collett, Sum41 and many more. At the same time, the NXNE Film Festival screens the year’s most compelling music films—concert classics to indie docs from around the world. And the Conference gathers 2,500 industry delegates for networking sessions, panels, and celebrity interviews with the likes of Police drummer Stewart Copeland and head Sex Pistol Johnny Rotten.

Last year, NXNE dramatically expanded its visibility in Canada’s largest city by staging three weeks of performances at Pearson International Airport. Union Station, Yonge-Dundas Square, Toronto Island, and a dozen parks around the city core also hosted NXNE shows. 2009 promises even more—including four nights of maximum outdoor exposure at the festival’s anchor location in the heart of Toronto at Yonge-Dundas Square.
