CONTENT/COMMUNITY MANAGER in INDIGENOUS MUSIC

DESCRIPTION:

MBM Digital is developing a digital platform to discover and promote music by Indigenous Canadian

artists. The site will provide a centralized place for aspiring and established Indigenous, First Nations,

Aboriginal, Native, Inuit, and Métis musicians to connect with their fans and the Canadian music

community and industry.

The Content & Community Manager will work with the MBM Digital team to grow our online community of

artists and to produce multimedia content for the site. The Content & Community Manager will be

responsible for writing the site blog, managing social media channels, sourcing audio and site content,

researching and interviewing artists, writing features, editing/uploading audio podcasts, managing/editing

user-generated content and maintaining a national Indigenous music events calendar.

We are looking for a talented, creative, and passionate person who loves all kinds of music and is

inspired to promote Indigenous musicians.

QUALIFICATIONS:

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

• Strong understanding and interest in the lives of Indigenous peoples, communities, music, art,

and social issues

• Proven track record of creativity and passion for music

• Strong research, writing, and curatorial skills

• Experience with blogging and social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Facebook,

Flickr, YouTube, SoundCloud)

• Knowledge of the music blogosphere (HypeMachine, SoundCloud, ReverbNation, BandCamp,

MySpace)

• Good knowledge of the Canadian music industry & digital music marketing

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Ability to work independently, in a fast-paced online environment

• Familiarity with audio editing software (ProTools, Adobe Audition, Audacity, Ableton Live)

• Knowledge of web content management systems (CMS, Drupal)

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Writing, managing, updating blog and site content (daily)

• Source Indigenous and Canadian music industry news

• Update/edit site content and user uploads (daily)

• Manage & update social media channels (daily)

• Produce bi-weekly podcast series with host (including editing & uploading audio)

• Contact & interview artists for Artist Features & Interviews (weekly)

• Maintain Indigenous artist database (ongoing)

TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT

• Be available to work on a flexible schedule in the Vancouver office or remotely

• Own a laptop/personal computer

CONTRACT:

Rate: $25.00 / hour

Status of Employment: Contract (5 months)

Work schedule: Part-Time (20-25 hrs/week)

Preference will be given to Indigenous, First Nations, Inuit, Aboriginal, and Métis candidates.
