More specifically;

Design product required by customers suggesting fresh new ideas to improve the product in terms of fabric, wash, trims, print, labeling package and graphics;
In partnership with vendors research new fabrics, washes and finishes leading to effective product development;
Provide clear sketches and styling explanations of the product to the technical design team in timely manner;
Follow up with vendors on samples developments;
Work closely with Sales Director to understand customer expectations and requirements.

The Talent needed:

Well organized, compliance with tight deadlines and sense of urgency, proficient at multi tasking, excellent influencing skills;
Excellent understanding of fabrics as well as garment construction, including denim and washes;
Ability to manage multiple projects and multiple resources;
Self motivated individual with excellent communication and written skills mainly in French and English;
Must have the ability to work under pressure with time sensitive constraints;
Strong problem solving, interpersonal and organizational skills;
Enthusiasm, initiative and result-driven;
5 years of experience in a similar role, within a private label department or company. Experience in denim is essential;
Designer Degree from renowned institute;
High level of computer literacy (MS Office, Photoshop, Illustrator).

MBM Digital is developing a digital platform to discover and promote music by Indigenous Canadian

artists. The site will provide a centralized place for aspiring and established Indigenous, First Nations,

The Content & Community Manager will work with the MBM Digital team to grow our online community of

Administration:

Requirements:

Knowledge and skills for this job are normally acquired through a post secondary degree in general arts, arts/administration and/or previous experience in developing and implementing public events.
Excellent computer skills (internet, spreadsheets, database management, word-processing, etc.). Good keyboarding skills and sound knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point), and Internet applications.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Creativity and imagination are required in liaising with outside groups, general public and media.
Good knowledge of the arts and cultural sector.
Previous project management or event coordination experience.

As part of the 2011 Music Series, SummerWorks will feature two evenings showcasing new pieces by artists working with musical theatre models in a stripped-down concert format. This year's festival will take place from August 4th-14th, 2011.

We're currently seeking applications from artists across the country who work both in conventional and unconventional musical models. Our only requirements are that the work has both live musical and dramatic elements, and has never before been produced. Applications from diverse artistic practices are strongly encouraged to apply (i.e. theatre artists, musicians, dancers, video artists, etc.).

Submissions should be a minimum of forty-five minutes in length. We're accepting full-length works (one or two acts) or a completed first act of an unfinished work.

Reporting to the Director, Information Technology, this position is responsible for implementing the new ticketing process and system for the organization.

Responsibilities:

Direct and manage project development from beginning to end.
Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents.
Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
Draft and submit budget proposals, and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.
Determine and assess human resources needs in conjunction with Human Resources team and oversee recruitment during project cycle.
Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
Plan, schedule and track project timelines, milestones and deliverables using appropriate tools.
Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential obstacles, and devise contingency plans.
Define project success criteria and disseminate to involved parties throughout project life cycle.
Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the
project.
Conduct project post mortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.

Contract Dates: Feb 1st 2011 (or earlier depending on availability) for a 6 month period

Minimum Requirements:

Minimum 3 years experience in Project Management
Experience in leading large projects spanning across departments.
Ability to read communication styles of team members, stakeholders and contractors who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.
PMP designation will be considered an asset.
Adaptable to a flexible work schedule including some evenings and weekends

Each fall, the festival presents the most compelling and distinctive Indigenous works and voices from around the globe. The festival's screenings, artist talks, panel discussions, industry and cultural events attract and connect filmmakers, media artists, programmers, buyers, and industry professionals. The works accepted reflect the breadth and diversity of the world's Indigenous cultures and illustrate the vitality and excellence of our art and culture in contemporary media.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
imagineNATIVE considers film, video, and new media works made by Canadian and international Indigenous artists.To be eligible, an Indigenous person (ie. self-identified as Indigenous, Aboriginal or First Peoples and their descendents) must have held a key creative role on the project as a writer, director, or producer. Indigenous communities, First Peoples, and Aboriginal Nations are those that are self-identified as having a historical continuity with societies that developed on recognized territories before colonization or transformation of that region into a nation-state and may consider themselves distinct (with often unique cultural, linguistic, traditional, social and other characteristics) from other sectors of the societies or nation-states now prevailing on those territories.
The festival strives to represent a diversity of ideas, themes and genres in its programming. The festival prioritizes works that balance unique content, cultural and social relevance, and a creative approach to form characterized by innovative expression, distinctive style, and personal vision. Priority is given to works that have not yet been broadcast in Canada or on the internet. International and Canadian premiere status is also a consideration. Dramatic or documentary series, news reports, extended reportage, television magazine formats, and information programming or segments (such as PSAs) are not eligible.

All non-English language films must have English subtitles for final viewing and English transcripts for the programmers.
Preview and exhibition tapes must have no commercial blacks or broadcaster promos.
Each film must have its own screening copy and submission form. Compilations will not be accepted.

Art Competition Brief for Waterloo Region Museum

1. Introduction

This document sets out the information that will be supplied by the Region of Waterloo and the information required from the artist to satisfy the requirements of the Art Competition for the Waterloo Region Museum Building (the Museum) in Kitchener, Ontario.

This art competition has a total price of $90,000 (plus GST) which recognizes the size and complexity of the finished artwork and includes all costs up to and including installation of the finished artwork but not including the cost of the plaque. The plaque will be provided by the Region naming the artist and the name of the artwork. This competition is intended for a single artwork and the $90,000 amount will be paid to a single artist. It will be up to the artist to decide if the artwork comprises more than one separate and distinct piece and if the lead artist chooses to involve other artist partners.

For purposes of establishing a contract, the Region requires the full name of the artist, their studio or residence address and daytime telephone number. If other artist partners are going to be recognized for their contribution to the artwork, these should be identified. The contract is to be signed by the lead artist only.

2. Artist Eligibility

This art competition is only open to Aboriginal artists who reside in the Province of Ontario or artist teams which have as one member, a status or non-status Aboriginal person resident in Ontario. The Region wants to recognize as part of its history that Aboriginal persons were present at the location of the Museum before all others. Therefore the stories to be told in the Museum will start with an artwork to be encountered by visitors as they first come upon the building from the parking lot.

3. Context

The location for this artwork will be the Waterloo Region Museum at 10 Huron Road in Kitchener Ontario. From the 401, take Homer Watson Blvd then right on Huron Road. More specifically, the intended site is shown in the attached drawing and labeled “Potential Artwork Area”. This could include either land or water environments. Artists should visit the site to understand the opportunities and limitations for this outdoor artwork.

Themes for the artwork could include plants, trees, animals, birds or other flora or fauna of the area, nature’s spirituality, ancient elements of earth, water, fire and air or other concepts that would integrate with the natural area of the intended artwork site.

4. Selection Process

The selection process will encompass two stages.
Stage 1

The first stage submission must include a sketch of the proposed artwork and artist qualifications. It will be reviewed by a jury who will select up to three short-listed artists who will be invited to develop detailed proposals and maquettes of their design concepts. Artists will not be reimbursed for any costs relating to stage 1 submissions.

Stage 2

The second stage submission is a detailed proposal which includes a maquette, a detailed budget, maintenance requirements, and associated drawings and/or samples. The maquettes will be put on display for a period of public comment and the complete proposal will be subjected to a technical review. These comments and the technical review will be provided to the same jury from stage 1 along with a presentation from the artist. The selection recommendation of the jury will be provided to Regional Council who may approve/reject any/all proposals. Each short-listed artist will be provided a detailed proposal /maquette fee of $1,200.00.

5. Selection Criteria

The jury will use several criteria as the basis for selecting their recommended winner of the artwork competition. At each stage, the criteria will be:
Stage 1
• Qualifications and related experience of the artist
• Strength, uniqueness, public appeal of the artwork concept
• Practicality of implementation and maintenance of the artwork concept

Stage 2
• Aesthetics at all natural light levels, artistic merit, quality
• Originality, power of the artwork’s statement
• Sensitivity and integration to site context
• Fulfillment of goals as described in this brief
• Constructability, safety, durability
Minor modifications may be recommended by the jury for consideration by the artist in creating the final artwork.

6. Initial Submission Requirements

At the commencement of this competition, artists are asked to submit only those items requested for Stage 1. If selected by the jury to proceed to Stage 2, artists will be notified and the detailed requirements of section 7 will be requested.
Stage 1 Submissions:

• One 8.5”x11” page sketch of the concept for the artwork
• One 8.5”x11” page accompanying statement which expresses the concept in words
• Up to 15 photos of recent, relevant, representative work. These can be submitted in one of the following forms:
(a) Printed photos,
(b) Images on a CD,
(c) JPEG images transmitted electronically
All images must be accompanied by descriptions, locations, dates, and creative responsibility
• Curriculum vitae to a maximum length of three pages

7. Project Schedule

There will be a dedication ceremony which will be scheduled after installation and coordinated with key municipal officials at which the artist is asked to be in attendance and may wish to make a comment to the press and public.

8. Subsequent Submission Requirements
Stage 2 Requirements
Once the short-list of three artists has been determined on or about August 11, 2010, only they will be asked to prepare the following:
1. Details of the artwork’s composition including materials to be used and the source of materials.
2. Details of the height, width and length as well as the weight of the finished artwork, its structure and support system.
3. Installation details for review by Regional Engineering.
4. Statements of the artwork’s durability, safety and security.
5. Location where the artwork will be created, and the estimated number of hours of full time or part time work that will be required to complete.
6. Budget breakdown of fabrication costs, installation costs, commission, contingency, transportation costs etc. Cost overruns will be covered by the artist.
7. A Maquette which is three dimensional, to scale, and shown in context of location on the site.
8. Drawings or other illustrative material.
A presentation to the jury in Kitchener, Ontario will also be required which will occur after the completion of the public comment period (see schedule).

The Region of Waterloo will pay each artist a fee of $1,200 for a complete stage 2 submission including the maquette.

9. Contract & Inspection

A contract document will be developed outlining the rights and obligations of the artist and the Region which must be reviewed and agreed before commencement of the creation process.

During the creation process, Region representatives may want to inspect progress especially in relation to payments required under the contract. There will also be engineering inspection(s) performed by the Region during installation of the Art. Installation is to be completely arranged for and supervised by the artist.

Curators Simone Rojas-Pick and Jessica Nagy are currently accepting creative proposals from emerging artists for their exhibition series, Intersections, taking place in Gallery 1313’s Window Box. From May 2010 – April 2011, the Window Box will be devoted to the Launch Pad Project, which will feature four different exhibition series based on the themes of motion and flux.
Intersections, the first instalment in the Launch Pad Project, is centred around the concept of the “mash-up”; where two or more voices/mediums/styles are combined to create a single work. The focus of these exhibitions will be on the changeability of environment and the limits of creation. We extend the challenge to artists to forget accepted “rules” and work in a fashion that includes an understanding of flexibility in relation to the immediate environment. This approach should bring about new and exciting projects that push beyond the restraints of the traditional gallery milieu and the confines of set artistic disciplines.
Artists are welcome to submit work in any media, including but not limited to: drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation, participatory, performance, video, and new media.
Intersections encourages artists to push the boundaries of their comfort zones and take the opportunity to experiment with new mediums or styles. Artists applying collaboratively with significantly different practices will be given special consideration. Artists applying independently may be matched by the curators with other applicants to produce a collaborative work. Proposals for artist-led community engagement and outreach activities to accompany the main exhibition are also welcome.

Exhibition Dates:
May 2010 – July 2010
Each exhibition runs for four weeks

Participation Requirements:
Artists must be emerging, professional artist(s)
Participating artists must be out of school or completing studies by project dates
Must be Ontario resident
Proposals are for new works only

Submissions should include the following:
Artist(s) statement, CV and contact information
5-10 JPGs of past work with accompanying image list
Images of proposed work (clearly labeled)
Written description of proposed work (maximum 2 pages) including technical requirements (if applicable).

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2009 is looking for performers to participate in artist Maria Legault’s
artwork entitled The Apology Project.

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, currently in its fourth year, is a free all night contemporary art
celebration, taking place on Saturday, October 3rd to sunrise on Sunday, October 4th.

The Apology Project requires a cluster of 55 people to wear large brown paper bags over their
torsos, congesting a public pathway, and personally apologizing to every person who ventures
through them. This human blockade will disrupt the regular flow of traffic.

The performance will run overnight (from 7pm-7am). All performers are required to attend a
rehearsal prior to the event. Performers will receive an honorarium, and will have access to
complimentary food and beverages during their scheduled breaks.

The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) and the Four Host First Nations (FHFN) are seeking your help in identifying Aboriginal artists interested in participating in the Coca-Cola Aboriginal Art Bottle Program.

Coca-Colas unique contour bottle is recognized around the world and the Coca Cola Art Bottle Program has become a tremendous form of expression during past Olympic Games. Last summer, during the Beijing Olympic Games, the Program featured artists from across China and showcased Chinese art and culture.

For the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, Coca-Cola is launching the Coca-Cola Aboriginal Art Bottle Program, which will celebrate the diversity of Aboriginal art and culture to the world by showcasing Aboriginal art on the contour bottle.

The attached letter and Call for Credentials provides more information about this exciting program. Please share this information with talented Aboriginal artists in your area and encourage them to apply for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. “This is what Oppression SOUNDS like” is an underground zine for and by racialized and indigenous women to anonymously discuss the intersecting realities of race and gender in their lives. This provides a space for racialized and indigenous girls and women to write safely without criticism in order to share their life experiences where historically their voices had been silenced. The zine is created and supported by members of the national racialized community who felt that their voices and experiences are continually being invalidated. “This is what Oppression SOUNDS like” is an unstructured space to share personal experiences and general thoughts through artwork, poetry and other written pieces. It will be published three times throughout the year with publication dates occurring in January, May and September. The zine will be available via an e-copy as well as a copy sent to every contributor.

The Canadian Aboriginal Writing Challenge is fun and easy and there is no charge to enter. Simply choose a moment in Aboriginal history and explore it through a piece of creative writing. The event selected should be tied to Canada's past and/or your ancestral history. It can date as far back as a traditional legend or as recently as the June 2008 apology for residential schools. We encourage you to be creative in your choice of writing styles.

Contest Rules

Participants must be of Aboriginal ancestry (Status, Non-Status, Inuit and Métis).
The age categories are 14-18 and 19-29.
Entries to the 14-18 age category should be no longer than 1400 words.
Entries to the 19-29 age category should be no longer than 2000 words.
Along with your creative writing, please complete a Participant Submission Form and 200-400 word Author's Statement that explains why you chose to write about the historical event you selected.
As the Canadian Aboriginal Writing Challenge is an educational program for young Canadians, we ask that you refrain from including inappropriate or profane language or content in your writing.

WPG: HIRING: Basketball Players for Upcoming Movie

We are looking to cast talented basketball players in the Winnipeg area for an upcoming feature film to be shot on location. Our company, SportsArc is the premiere sports consultation firm in the film industry. Its' executives are credited with shooting or choreographing the sports action in over 200 episodes of television and 20 feature films and has cast the athletes featured in these projects. The firm houses the only athlete/actor community of its' kind, and casts many of its' projects directly from that database.
